We love spring – it’s arguably a Mish family favorite time of year! Today I wanted to share a handful of things that we enjoy doing each spring!
- Make “Fairy” Gardens – we made two last year with a couple plastic containers from the dollar store and some little fairy items (also from the dollar store) and throughout the year they’ve added flowers, rocks and other favorite finds from our nature walks – Emily got this fairy garden for her Easter and she absolutely loves it!
- Plant flower seeds inside – we love this seed starter!
- Plant a mini veggie garden or potted garden (each year we plant Zucchini in a little garden bed on the side of our house and them tomatoes and strawberries in pots on our deck)
- Watch caterpillars turn into butterflies
- For two years we got the baby caterpillars from Insect Lore but this year out of Emily’s new found ladybug interest we…
- Watched ladybug larva turn into adult ladybugs (also from Insect Lore)
- Send them on outdoor “adventures”
- I fill their backpacks with surprise activities (coloring books/crayons, a scavenger hunt, sticker books, an audiobook and cd player, etc), and a bunch of snacks and send them outside. Sometimes they build a fort on the deck, or set up camp in the playhouse…
- Let the kids dig in the mud
- For the last couple years we’ve allowed the kids to take over the section of mulch/dirt/mud under our deck stairs. We send them out in boots with shovels, watering cans and buckets in hands and they spend hours digging for worms, naming them and adding them to their bucket of mud (We love these gloves, this watering can (I recommend plastic so it doesn’t rust) and these shovels)
- Go on a hike (locally we love adventuring around Peters Lake or Mingo Creek)
